Alternative to AA cards: You could consider using the Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) American Express card. The Starwood program allows 20k Starpoints to be transferred into 25k AA miles - see Rewards Credit Cards. (Note, AAdvantage is not a transfer partner to either American Express Membership Rewards or Chase Ultimate Rewards - such points however, could be transferred to British Airways which allows American flight redemptions).
AAdvantage Million Miler program - Reaching 1 million and 2 million AA miles gets you lifetime Gold or Platinum status, respectively. Note, AA no longer allows credit card spend to contribute to this lifetime mileage total.
